Fusion splice points are essential in optical networks but difficult to detect when insertion losses are extremely small. Conventional reflectometry methods, such as optical time-, frequency-, and correlation-domain reflectometry systems, are not sufficient to identify high-quality splices with low losses. In this work, we demonstrate splice detection using Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry (BOCDR), which captures compressive strain induced by heat-shrink sleeves. Distributed measurements along a 12.8-m silica single-mode fiber reveal Brillouin frequency downshifts equivalent to –0.055% to –0.078% strain, enabling clear splice identification. These results establish BOCDR as a practical diagnostic tool for reliable fiber-network maintenance.
