We propose and experimentally demonstrate a simplified low-coherence Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry technique for temperature sensing near a reflection point within an optical fiber. By utilizing a randomly modulated light source, our method requires no special modifications to the fiber under test and employs a simple, cost-effective setup. This will make it highly suitable for detecting anomalies at branching points in existing fiber networks. Our experimental results confirm that Brillouin scattering from both sides of the reflection point contributes to the measurement, enabling selective temperature sensing around the reflection point.
